Friends of Tower Hill

Friends are volunteers interested in giving practical assistance to a particular conservation reserve, native plant or animal. While each group has its own objectives they generally:

  • Provide support for a reserve
  • Foster public awareness about the reserve
  • Bring together people with a common interests
  • In consultation with Parks Victoria assist with special projects
  • Support the effective management of native flora and fauna in Victoria

Formed in 1993 the Friends of Tower Hill are a diverse group who are passionate about the environment. Working closely with Parks Victoria the Friends have created and improved habitat for Tower Hill's native fauna. The Friends have actively engaged with community and school groups to assist with growing and planting various species alongside the weeding of non endemic plants. Another example of some very specific habitat maintenance was constructing wooden nest boxes for sugar gliders, undertaken in partnership with TAFE. Altogether volunteers have planted some 300,000 trees, scrubs, herbs and grasses in Tower Hill since 1961.
